  • Broad reactions in wake of Steamboat 700 election
Steamboat 700 supporters and opponents agreed on one thing Tuesday night: Voters? rejection of the annexation means it?s time for the city to update its community plan and rethink how to handle growth in coming years.
  • Local bluegrass bands play free show today
3Wire is one of two local acts with bluegrass influences scheduled to play a free show at 8 p.m. today at Ghost Ranch Saloon. Bluegrass band Cornbread is scheduled to play at 10:30 p.m.
  • Our View: The process worked
After months of debate and community conversation, the city?s balloting on the Steamboat 700 annexation has ended. The mail-only vote went more smoothly than the often-heated discussions about the issue. The Steamboat 700 balloting represented effective cooperation between the city and the county. That type of teamwork between local municipalities isn?t unusual, but it is impressive. We?re encouraged by the simplicity and orderliness of this vote.

A few weeks ago, I sent him a letter asking him to vote against the legislation and vote with the majority of Coloradans who reject the federal takeover of health care.
  • Randy Fricke: Read water report
My congratulations go out to all of the concerned parties and citizens on the upcoming water conference, which is Friday. It is my hope that Steamboat and surrounding communities can preserve their beautiful streams and rivers for agriculture and recreation for years to come.
